The electric MG4 officially lands on European soil, including the Spanish market. MG’s new electric compact isn’t just another electric car; is probably the desired “village electric car”, a model that attacks one of the most popular segments in Europe (segment C) with a real demolition price: from 21,280 euros including the aid of the MOVES III Plan. We already know the prices of the entire range, in addition to all its standard equipment, the benefits and the technical details of the three versions that will make up its range.

The MG4 Electric is the first in a series of MG models based on the new modular platform MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) from parent company SAIC Motor, and will serve as the basis for other future models. With a 4,287mm length, fully enters the C segment to compete with the Citroën ë-C4, Cupra Born, Renault Megane E-Tech and Volkswagen ID.3. The MG4 Electric is the most affordable of them all.

It has a width of 2,060 mm (including mirrors) and a height of 1,504 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. Its trunk has 363 liters of capacity (350 in the Luxury version), being able to reach 1,177 liters with the seats folded down. It weighs 1,655 kg empty (1,685 kg for the Comfort version), with a 50:50 weight distribution between both axles. The MG4 employs MacPherson strut suspension at the front axle and a five-link suspension at the rear, and variable-assist electrically-powered steering.

Depending on the model version, the drag coefficient ranges from Cx 0.27 to 0.287. It is equipped with a semi-active aerodynamics system, with an air intake in the front apron that opens or closes depending on cooling needs. According to MG, when it is closed, autonomy increases by up to 10%. To this we must add low rolling resistance tires focused on energy efficiency.

MG4 Standard: 51 kWh LFP battery and knockdown price

The range of the electric MG4 will be made up of three versions. The access version is MG4 Electric Standard and mounts a lithium-ferrophosphate battery with 51 kWh capacity that allows homologation 350 kilometers of autonomy in WLTP cycle. This version has an electric motor on the rear axle that delivers 170 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm of torque, allowing it to do 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The fast charge of the Standard version supports 117 kW of power in direct current and 6.6 kW in alternating current, more discreet figures than the versions with the largest capacity battery (as we will detail later). With DC fast charging, the MG4 Standard’s battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes.

The MG4 Electric Standard will have a price of 29,240 euros before aid and discounts. Including the maximum aid from the MOVES III Plan and the launch discount applied by the manufacturer, the MG4 Standard starts at 21,280 euros. An unparalleled price among electric cars in its category.

The large battery, only for the Comfort and Luxury versions

Above the Standard there will be two versions, with differences at the equipment level but identical at a technical level. The MG4 Electric Comfort and MG4 Electric Luxury have a nickel-cobalt-manganese battery with a 64 kWh capacity. The Comfort version homologates 450 kilometers of autonomy, while the Luxury version is satisfied with 435 kilometers of range, both figures according to the WLTP homologation cycle. The Comfort version approves an electrical consumption of 16 kWh per 100 km.

These two versions have a electric motor with 204 hp (150 kW) and 250 Nm of torque, which delivers its power to the rear wheels. Although they are more powerful, curiously they do the 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, two tenths slower than the access version. Top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h on all versions.

The versions with the largest capacity battery are equipped as standard with an 11 kW (AC) on-board charger and fast direct current charging at 135 kW. With the latter, the MG4 Electric can recharge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in 35 minutes. The vehicle battery has bidirectional chargingbeing able to supply power to external devices such as electric bikes, smartphones and computers through an adapter cable.
